After shampooing with Dandruff-Defence Shampoo, work a liberal amount of conditioner throughout the hair and massage firmly into scalp. Avoid scratching the scalp as this can damage the hair at its root and make the scalp sensitive to infection.
For best results, leave conditioner in your hair for 3 – 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
When trying to manage dandruff, also be mindful of the following factors, which may irritate the scalp and therefore worsen the condition - excessive use of hair sprays and gels, use of hair-dryer, curlers or straightening irons, cold weather and dry indoor heating.
Regular brushing of your hair is recommended as it helps to loosen flakes and stimulate blood supply to the scalp.
For people who suffer from dandruff, regular shampooing and conditioning is generally recommended as it helps to break down oils and remove dead skin before it can build up into larger, more noticeable flakes. Regular shampooing and conditioning will help to control the pH balance of the skin and limit the risk of dandruff.
Zinc Pyrithione - abbreviated ZnP (or ZPT) and also known as pyrithione zinc is a compound active against the Malassezia furfur yeasts (the fungus that causes dandruff), which are believed to play a major role in dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
Derived naturally from pure mineral zinc, zinc pyrithione reduces itching and flaking of the scalp – symptoms typically associated with dandruff. It also provides antibacterial properties that are known to be effective against many pathogens from the streptococcus and staphylococcus class.
Zinc pyrithione is a safe and proven all-round antibacterial and antifungal agent that helps reduce secondary inflammation caused by bacteria and fungi entering through broken skin, thus causing inflammation.
Other medical uses for this mineral include treatment of psoriasis, eczema, ringworm, fungus, athletes foot, dry skin, atypical dermatitis, tinea, vitiligo, etc.
Dimethicone - is another name for polydimethylsiloxane and is used to impart a soft velvety feel to hair or skin products. It is also used as an emulsifier for "water-in-oil" emulsions. Highly cross-linked silicone films such as Dimethicone are used to form films that absorb sebum (skin oils).
Stearalkonium Chloride - (derived from coconut & salt) Antistatic ingredient used to control flyaways and aid in helping a brush or comb get through hair. Good conditioning agent. This quartenary ammonium compound adds shine to hair and improves the ability to manage hair therefore rendering constant sebum producing combing unecessary.
Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride - Cationic guar gum is a modified, naturally derived (from the seeds of the guar plant cyampopis tetragonolobus) quaternary, high-molecular weight sugar polymer (polysaccharide) combining both thickening and conditioning effects.
